A Unique Combination of Mindfulness, Neuroscience & Positive Psychology
This course is a series of 8 friendly, weekly online meetings that provide an opportunity for a group of likeminded people to come together and support each other in working through 'Resilient', the highly acclaimed personal development program created by leading psychologist, meditation teacher, and neuroscience expert, Dr Rick Hanson, Ph.D.
(Dr Rick Hanson is a celebrated figure in the field of psychology and personal well-being. He is a Senior Fellow of the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley and a New York Times best-selling author. Rick is noted for his ground-breaking work in identifying and teaching the core skills required for human well-being, healthy personal psychological growth, and beneficial meditation practice. All his work is grounded in Mindfulness and non-religious Buddhist principles.)
The weekly online course sessions will enable participants to meet together safely and to explore the course work (and meditation exercises) in convenient, easy-to-digest weekly segments – and also to discuss, share and reflect on the experiences they've had over the previous week while actually putting the course work and meditations into practice in their daily lives. These weekly group sessions also include supplementary material and additional teaching that gives extra context, background and explanation to the core course themes.
The weekly meetings are hosted by Shaun (a highly experienced group facilitator and trained Mindfulness teacher who runs our other weekly Mindfulness sessions) and all the course materials (including a copy of the'Resilient' handbook and a audio files of all the meditations used during the course) will be provided, with everyone receiving their own, personal hard copy of the handbook by post in advance of the course beginning. The guided meditations are made available as mp3 files that can be streamed or downloaded, and the weekly course worksheets and additional notes are provided as pdf downloads.
The weekly group meetings will be held over 8 consecutive Monday evenings, all starting at 6.30pm. The first group session is on Monday 19th October 2020 with the final group session on Monday 7th December 2020. The weekly group meetings are currently taking place online due to the coronavirus situation, but they are designed to be fun, friendly, welcoming, informal, and supportive. They use the popular interactive webinar format, Zoom. (You do not need a special app or any special software in order to participate in these online sessions, you just need to be at a computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone that has internet access. The online sessions are all live and fully interactive, with opportunity for social interaction.) A video recording of each group session is made privately available afterwards for participants to refer back to as part of the course resources.
The weekly sessions themselves will last approximately 2 hours. In addition to attending the weekly meetings, participants in the program should expect to also undertake approximately 30-40 minutes of home meditation practice (plus some light reading and other short exercises) every day over the period of the course.

'Resilient' - 12 tools for transforming everyday experience into lasting happiness
Your key to self-love and inner peace
In Resilient, Rick Hanson explains how to build the very foundations of well-being by harnessing the power of positive experiences to build an unshakeable core.
Dr. Hanson poses that anyone can build up resilience, the key to a positive mindset, unshakeable sense of self and the ability to get back up again and withstand anything life throws your way. He has distilled 40 years of clinical work and teaching into 12 practical, highly effective tools to help you build your resilience. Working with these tools allows you to enter a positive feedback cycle, which creates a sense of well-being, which in turn establishes resilience, and ultimately powers itself to strengthen you.

Important Notes:
● This program of meetings and course work is not intended to be taken as a replacement for therapy or medical treatment. This program does not include clinical supervision or oversight, and it is not appropriate for those with significant mental health issues. Any person with a condition requiring medical or therapeutic treatment should consult a qualified doctor or therapist.
● Mindfulness and other forms of meditation are safe and appropriate practices for the vast majority of people and they are proven to offer a wide range of benefits, including the lowering of stress and deep levels of relaxation. However current research indicates that all forms of meditation (including Mindfulness) may be unwise for people with bipolar vulnerability or those who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD), unless it is conducted under clinical supervision. If you are currently receiving treatment for any form of mental health issue (or have received such treatment in the recent past, or have reason to believe that you might need such treatment), you should consult your doctor or health care professional before engaging with Mindfulness or any form of meditation.
